Uganda's Western Region
Lake Mburo National Park
Legend tells of two brothers, Kigarama and Mburo; one of whom dreamt of a massive flood and moved north and the other who refused to listen and drowned as a result. Lake Mburo National Park is named after the misfortunate brother. Sandwiched between Masaka and Mbarara in Southwestern Uganda, Lake Mburo National Park is the country’s only park to contain an entire lake. It is the beautiful and serene Lake Mburo, and the rolling hills and grassy valleys that surround it, that make this park one of the most scenically stimulating in Uganda.
Discover the graceful sitatunga camouflaged in the surrounding papyrus swamps, while hippos graze on the banks of the lake in the morning cool. Herds of impala traverse the acacia dotted savannah, while the Blue Naped Coucal, bare faced Go Away Bird and Nubian Woodpecker make this park one of the finest places to witness several of the continent’s most exotic bird species.
