South Africa's The Garden Route
Tsitsikamma Forest
This narrow coastal belt of craggy lichen flecked coastline cut with spectacular river gorges and fynbos carpeted cliffs, extends 80km along one of the most beautiful sections of the southern Cape coast and includes a marine reserve that stretches 5.5km out into the sea.
The Tsitsikamma Forest, as this breathtaking stretch is known, is easily one of the most scenically spectacular destinations in all of South Africa. Throughout the forest find deep gorges, evergreen forests, tidal pools and beautiful empty beaches. Explore the park by venturing the 5 day Otter Trail, or opt for the slightly more conservative Dolphin Trail. For a truly breathtaking experience, journey to Storms River Mouth where you can descend through a tree labeled forest and cross the narrow suspension bridges of the river mouth so named due to the pounding fury seen from its waters when the gale winds blow.
