Rwanda's Virunga Lodge
Virunga Lodge
The Volcanoes National Park ranks as one of the best places in Africa to go gorilla tracking, while also supporting a number of other localised mammal, bird and plant species. The park protects the Rwanda sector of the Virunga mountains, a range of six extinct and three active volcanoes which straddle the border with Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Virunga Lodge is set on a stunning hillside. The lodge features eight permanent en-suite bandas with private balconies overlooking the dramatic Virunga volcanoes and lakes. The sumptuous meals, a mixture of western and local African cuisine, are served in the dining room which boasts fantastic views of the lakes. In the nearby park you can track the endangered mountain gorilla and the golden monkey. Lodge activities include birdwatching, photography and native culture.
