For those seeking total isolation and pristine natural beauty, Medjumbe is the ideal honeymoon or romantic getaway island. You can stroll around the island in a couple of hours, and admire the majestic lighthouse perched on the sharp corner.
Each chalet has its own Jacuzzi set in an open-air deck - a shell's throw away from the virgin white sand on the beach. The Moorish feel infuses the beautifully appointed thatched chalets with timber decks, each featuring an en-suite bathroom with indoor shower and separate bath as well as a private outdoor shower. Chalets have air-conditioning, a cosy hammock, ceiling fans, mosquito screens and satellite TV.
The diving around Medjumbe Island is exceptional, with virgin reefs descending to unchartered depths. There are also excellent opportunities for fly-fishing off Medjumbe's long sand spit, and if you are a keen deep-sea fisherman, charter one of the luxurious boats with experienced crew for a full or half day adventure at sea. If you prefer to stay above the water, take a pedal boat out and explore the surrounding waters and enjoy the various colourful fish playfully chasing the boat! Other activities include kayaking, windsurfing and sailing, bird watching, water-skiing, wakeboarding and knee-boarding. At certain times of the year, the lucky visitor could witness turtles hatching from their (protected) nests, indeed a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Otherwise, relax in the hammock outside your chalet and while away the sun-filled hours with nothing to hear but the waves lapping on the shore. After a full day enjoying the activities on offer, sit back with a sundowner cocktail whilst watching the dhows saunter moodily past at the convivial 'Bahari' bar next to the pool prior to sampling some of the fresh local seafood for dinner.
