The Warm Heart of Africa

Malawi's Southern Malawi

Lower Shire

The long and powerful Shire River winds its way through the length of Malawi until it descends to the lower valley, an extension of the Great Rift Valley, cascading through a series of rapids and waterfalls, and finally broadens along the placid floodplain known as the Lower Shire Valley.

This is one of the least visited treasures of Malawi, as well as one of the most picturesque. Marvel at the views from the Thyolo Escarpment where the panorama of the floodplains below and the Zambezi on the horizon prove absolutely breathtaking, or explore the lesser known, yet equally as inspiring, natural reserves throughout the area.
