Kenya's Loisaba Lodge
Loisaba Lodge
Set on 61,000 acres of private ranch and wilderness conservancy, Loisaba Lodge sits on the edge of the Laikipia Plateau in northern Kenya. Through Loisaba roam various game- elephant, lion and leopard, alongside the rare northern species that thrive here- gerenuk, grevy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe. It’s a setting little changed since the Great Rift Valley split Africa in two creating the escarpment on which the lodge lies on. Luxurious yet in harmony with its surroundings, full of adventure yet an oasis of calm. Loisaba is a tranquil and life-enhancing haven for wildlife and visitors alike.
Loisaba is immense: bigger in size than some ten of the world's fully-fledged nations! You could take months exploring this land and never encounter the same view twice. Daily scheduled flights are available from Nairobi Wilson airport to Loisaba airstrip, followed by a ten minute road transfer to the lodge. Built entirely of local materials, the Loisaba Lodge offers stunning views of Mount Kenya. The seven en-suite rooms all have a private deck built into the escarpment; all the furniture at the lodge is handmade. The lodge has a swimming pool and tennis court. The Star Beds: Exclusive to Loisaba, each Star Bed is a raised, handcrafted wooden platform sculpted into a kopje of rocks and semi-covered with a thatched roof. Natural "Mukokoteni beds" can either be wheeled out onto the uncovered area for a night under the stars or left under the shelter of the roof. Accessible only by camel, horseback or on foot, guests are guided by a team of traditional guides to the sites. Each platform has a private toilet with a camp style drum shower.
