Botswana's Makgadikgadi Pans
Makgadikgadi Pans
A vast landscape of sprawling grass plains, set brazenly against the sweeping blue horizon of the Botswana sky, the Makgadikgadi Pans invariably strikes a state of scenic euphoria amidst its visitors. The most visible remnants of the lake formed more than five millions years previous, the Makgadikgadi Pans showcase Botswana’s ever evolving landscape at its finest. From May to November, witness the large herds of zebra, springbok and wildebeest drawn to the nutrient rich waters of the rainy season, as well as the impressive predators in the shape of lion, cheetah and hyena, that follow.
Just north, find the Nxai Pan National Park, also a vast grass plain set in the remnants of an ancient lake, speckled with acacia trees and the diverse wildlife that come here to feed.
